This maths teaching resource helps children develop the ability to subitise (know by looking - without counting) numbers from 7 to 12. Hold each card up for just a second and ask your students to call out (or write down) the number of each fruit they can see.
This PDF file contains 4 different sets of cards (each with a different fruit) for you to use. Just download, save, print and laminate.
Teaching Tip: At this level ask your students, "How did you know it was eight if you didn't have time to count all the pears?" Responses may include something like:
- I saw two rows of four and I know double four is eight;
- I saw a group of six and a group of two, and six count on two is eight;
- I saw a nine pattern (three rows of three) with one missing, and I know one less than nine is eight.
