This maths teaching resource is a 110 piece (55 colour or 55 blackline) place value set for learning about the value of the digits in whole and decimal numbers.
Download and print the pages you'd like to begin teaching place value today. Make the number 3.287 by placing the .2 on top of the .08 on top of the .007 and placing them all on top of the 3. This helps students to see that 3.287 is the same as 3 + 0.2 + 0.08 + 0.007 and other combinations including 3.2 + 0.087, 3.28 + 0.007, 3.08 + 0.207
and many more.
Students are able to partition and rearrange the numbers in different ways by physically pulling apart the number and grouping it in different combinations.
Blackline masters have been included if you'd prefer to print on coloured paper (a different colour for each place).
Teaching Tip: Use this resource to help students develop the ability to partition numbers in different ways. This flexibility with numbers makes it easier when students are required to perform non-standard calculations - including those with regrouping.
